YAYB and the City University of New York’s Building Performance Lab (CUNY BPL) will offer a 12-week training program that provides young people with foundational career pathway education, hands on training and internships designed to introduce them to careers in the Building Operations field. Eligible participants will be 17-24 years old, not in school or working, low income, and from the greater New York City metropolitan area.
The program will run four days a week during the first six weeks and will include classroom and hands on instruction and career readiness and career pathway exploration. Graduating students will receive a CUNY Certificate of Program Completion and will be eligible for six week internships, after which they will be tracked for education and/or job placement.
The BOTP will develop participants’ foundational knowledge in the efficient operation of building systems building and train them to manage various aspects of a building, such as:

- Heating and Boiler systems

- The Building envelope

- Ventilation/Heat distribution systems

- Maintenance and Site safety concerns

- Burner types
-
- Introduction to Electrical systems and safety

- Maintenance log books

- Building Walkthroughs and Periodic inspections
YAYB will engage a range of community partners in delivering this training program, including low income housing operators such as Taino Towers, Hope Community, Winn Residential, East Harlem Fight Back and Shinda Management. The program is underwritten with funds from Youth Action Programs and Homes, Enterprise Community Partners Inc., the CUNY Building and Performance Lab, the Enterprise Foundation and HRA/Work Progress Program (WPP).
