Networking and Fiber Training
Receives $150,000 from
NYCETC
The Next-Gen Digital Workforce (NGDW) initiative by Youth Action YouthBuild is a comprehensive training program designed to prepare 45 New Yorkers aged 18 to 30 for careers in the wireless network management and fiber installation/maintenance industries. The program, first piloted in 2021, aims to bridge the gap in NYC’s tech workforce by providing a pipeline for low-income individuals to access “good jobs” in the wireless networking and broadband technology sectors. NGDW is comprised of a 30-hour “foundations” course, 25-hours of work readiness training and industry exploration, social capital building training, hands on field based learning labs with industry partners, and training leading to tech-based certifications including the Certified Wireless
Technician (CWT) and Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) credentials and a connection to a job at the program’s end. YAYB recently received a $150,000 grant from the New York
City Employment Training Coalition (NYCETC) to support the NGDW. This funding increases our capacity of delivering a quality training program, and for preparing participants for a viable career in the tech field.
Introducing Our New Success
Manager Sylvel Davis
Ms. Sylvel Davis is the newest addition to the YAYBteam. She started her role as the Senior Case Manager aka Success Manager in early September 2023. As Success Manager, Ms. Davis provides
guidance and care for our student helping them to reduce the barriers that may impede their success in the YouthBuild program. Ms. Davis brings a keen awareness and understanding of working with young people developed from her previous experience working in schools in the Bronx. She is able to relate and empathize with our students as she has grown up in similar environments, and has had to navigate life challenges. She has taken on her position with grace, tenacity, and kindness. We are excited to introduce her to you and to have her on our team!
