Youth Action YouthBuild (YAYB) is a youth development program that offers High School Equivalency (HSE) programs designed to help you on the path to self-empowerment.
YAYB students develop the skills required for full-time jobs with a living wage and comprehensive benefits while learning how to exercise community leadership. Eligible young men and women aged 17-24 years spend nine months (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-3:00 pm):-Participating in classes in construction, worksite training projects, or food preparation/production
- Receiving various industry certifications
- Obtaining instruction leading to a high school equivalency diploma, and
- Undertaking community service and leadership development projects all of which are mandatory.
There are four (4) steps to our YAYB application process. All of which MUST be completed to be considered:
Step 1 – Complete the YAYB application below.
Step 2 – Complete the YAYB interview process. Your completed application and test scores will be reviewed by staff. If you are deemed eligible, you will be scheduled for a brief interview conducted by a helpful staff member.
Step 3 – Complete an intake exam. Upon the completion and return of your application, you will need to take a short reading and math assessment quiz to help us determine how best to assist you in attaining your High School Equivalency diploma. This is an important part of the application process, so study and DO YOUR BEST!
Step 4 – Orientation. Applicants who have completed steps 1-3 and have been determined by staff to be potentially likely to complete the rigorous 9-month program will be invited to participate in Orientation. During Orientation, selected participants are introduced to the rigors and requirements of the YAYB program before actually being enrolled.
Orientation provides an opportunity for the staff to determine how well an applicant can follow program policies and procedures. At the completion of Orientation, certain applicants will be selected to become participants of the YAYB program.
***In order to be fully enrolled all participants must have proper and current documentation (NYS identification card, birth certificate, residency card, and Social Security card)***
